There are two theories about the source of the flea market: According to linguist Christine Amher, the flea market originally originated from the Fly Market in New York, which is a fixed market in the Lower Manhattan area of New York. It lasted from before the American Revolution (1775) to about 1816. The word Fly is derived from the Dutch name of the market, Vly or Vlie. The word means "valley" in Dutch. Coincidentally, it is pronounced in Dutch exactly like flea in English, so it forms Flea market in English.
Another argument is that the flea market originated in France at the end of the 19th century. Le Marche aux Puces (French, literally equivalent to the market of the fleas in English) is a place where Paris sells bargains. Early British people often sold their old clothes and things on the street, and those old things often had disgusting little bugs such as fleas and lice. Gradually, people call the place where used goods are sold such as flea market.
We Chinese also have flea markets, but we do nt have any of these bugs in them, which translates into flea markets. People half-jokingly said that flea is likely to be everywhere in the junk goods in the market, so the market got its name.
In many schools in China, especially during the school month, students are organized to sell their used books and sell them at the school. This not only cultivates the children's habit of loving books, but also cultivates children to read more Reading habits! During the graduation season of Chinese universities, a flea market is also organized in the school to allow students to buy used books, school supplies, and daily necessities, so that students can travel lightly to their homes in the distance.
