How Do I Become a Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon?

The types of orthopedic treatments, natural reconstruction concepts, and applied technical methods are significantly different from traditional major orthopedics. At present, the majors of surgery in China's general hospitals become more and more detailed, and the management system and work processes are not conducive to the development of orthopedic specialty. To promote orthopaedic surgery for lower limb disability, management must undergo a major reform. Surgical treatment of limb disability is an interdisciplinary specialty, and a too detailed division is not conducive to the development of orthopaedic specialty of lower limbs. Due to the different causes of limb deformity, the degree and type of deformity and disability are diverse.

Congenital, hereditary, metabolic, traumatic, infectious and other diseases can cause pediatric motor system diseases or secondary bone and joint deformities, especially when lower limb deformities in children occur, with age and bone development, The effect of abnormally heavy stress will lead to complicated pathological changes, increasing the difficulty of treatment. How to achieve early diagnosis and early treatment of pediatric orthopedic diseases, how to use modern orthopedic theory and technology, and penetrate the concept of minimally invasive and minimally invasive technology in clinical work to treat pediatric orthopedic diseases are the main purposes of writing this book. The book is divided into 14 chapters and more than 800 drawings. In order to save readers time, the text should be as concise as possible, and the writing form should not be uniform. Avoid general talk.
Pediatric traumatic fractures are described in detail in many orthopaedic works. The correction of pediatric spinal deformities has been published in many monographs, and it is not necessary to repeat the compilation in detail. Therefore, this book focuses on the diagnosis and surgical treatment of children's limbs, especially lower limb bone and joint deformities. Due to Ilizarov's biological theory of "minimally invasive stretched tissue regeneration", combined ring-shaped external fixators and standard operating techniques, they have been promoted and applied worldwide, changing the concept and treatment of orthopedics. In recent years, new progress has been made in basic research, device innovation and clinical application. It can use small trauma or even bloodless surgery to satisfactorily correct various complex limb deformities, repair defective limbs, and reconstruct the shape and function of limbs. And will not produce serious surgical complications. Therefore, modern orthopedics has entered the era of tissue repair and reconstruction dominated by external fixation technology (physical engineering). This book gives a detailed introduction to the external fixation technology, especially the basic theory and technology of "pulled tissue regeneration", which has been recently researched and clinically applied.
Limb deformities caused by cerebral palsy have become more prominent in pediatric orthopedics, and in recent years, there have been many advances in the surgical treatment of cerebral palsy in the field of orthopedics and neurosurgery, but there are few related monographs and literatures, so this book As a key content introduction.
This book is suitable for reading by medical and health workers, medical school students, and graduate students. It is especially suitable for clinical orthopedics, pediatric surgery, orthopedic surgeons, and neurosurgeons.

(1) Lack of orthopedic surgeons
(2) Academic research lags significantly
Because the number of doctors engaged in limb orthopaedics is scarce, and the clinical and basic research work of orthopedics is few, the relevant papers are naturally published very little. For example, in the 7th National Orthopaedic Conference held in Guangzhou in 2005, a total of 3702 papers were received, of which 994 were spine, 557 were joints, 622 were trauma, 1495 were comprehensive orthopedic diseases, and surgical treatment. There are only 34 papers on limb disability. Even more embarrassing is that 9 of them were written by the same author. Because there are too few people engaged in this profession, in the past 10 years, the Chinese Medical Association Orthopaedics Branch has not held a seminar on orthopaedic surgery for lower limb deformity and incompleteness.
Especially serious is the rare high-level orthopaedic surgeon who can regulate treatment in China. Many patients with physical disabilities are difficult to obtain timely medical advice and rehabilitation guidance, let alone to carry out systematic, reasonable, and correct orthopedic treatment. It is quite common for patients with physical disabilities to seek medical advice or have no money. Some patients who have suffered for most of their lives in tears told me with tears: "It took us more than 40 years to find hospitals and doctors that can treat physical disabilities. We are too difficult."
(3) Guidance of disabled people's federations in various places on the rehabilitation of limb disabilities has declined
After medical treatment enters the market, it is bound to dilute the concept of public welfare of hospital managers. In general, the China Disabled Persons' Federation and the rehabilitation organizations of the provinces and cities have very little contact with local health administrations, hospitals, and orthopedic associations. Without the close cooperation of an orthopaedic surgeon, the opinions on his medical and rehabilitation are just a piece of paper, and the decision based on it can only be made in the air.
