(Three) herbarium
The herbarium of Fujian Normal University has a long history. When the former Fujian Normal University had a museum major, it began to collect animal specimens. In 1940, under the auspices of Academician Zheng Zuoxin, the Animal Union Laboratory of Fujian Union University was established. On this basis, it has gradually grown to its present scale after being arduously cultivated by Academician Zheng Zuoxin, Academician Tang Zhongyi, Professor Ding Hanbo and other well-known older generation zoologists and several generations of zoologists. The museum has about 50,000 specimens and nearly 3,000 specimens, belonging to 20 categories in the animal kingdom. It has one of the most precious specimens in the first and second grades in more than 90 countries, including South China Tiger and Zhu Xi. The collected specimens are invaluable for teaching and scientific research. They not only provide valuable materials for previous students of our college to study zoology, but also provide extremely important specimen materials for teachers and students to carry out scientific research. Many zoologists, such as Academician Zheng Zuoxin, Academician Tang Zhongyi, Professor Ding Hanbo, and Professor Wang Yiqin, have published more than 10 monographs and hundreds of academic papers. Experts and professors from many important domestic research institutes and universities have borrowed or checked specimens, and many counterparts from abroad and from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan have also come here for exchanges. In 1999, it was approved as the first batch of provincial popular science education bases by Fujian Province.
The Herbarium of Fujian Normal University was founded in 1926. It is a combination of the herbarium of the former Fujian Research Institute, the herbarium of the former Fujian Union University, and the herbarium of the former South China Women's University of Arts and Sciences. After several generations of unremitting efforts, it has developed into the sixth largest collection of specimens in the collections of institutions of higher learning in China, and has the largest number of specimens and the largest plant specimens in colleges and universities in China. The Herbarium has collected and preserved nearly 200 species of plant specimens unique to Fujian, such as Fujian cypress, Fujian Michelia, Wuyishan Rhododendron, and Fujian Rock Beard, etc., and all the rare and rare species that are produced in Fujian and belong to the national first, second, and third levels of key protection Endangered plant specimens. The specimen room is arranged according to the Engler system. It has a collection of more than 154,000 vascular plant specimens and some bryophyte and algae specimens. It is a scientific and technological worker engaged in plants, agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, medicine and other industries. An important base for research in the fields of resource development, flora and geography. It provides important data for the protection and utilization of plant diversity in China, and provides important specimen data for the scientific research of botanical experts at home and abroad. On the basis of the rich collection of the specimen room, Fujian Botany (more than 6 million words) edited by Professor Lin Laiguan from our institute, after 15 years of unremitting efforts, it was published by Fujian Science and Technology Press in 1995. This set of monographs is by far one of the most important monographs published in the field of natural sciences in our province.
After the college was relocated to Qishan Campus in November 2006, the Animal and Herbarium of Fujian Normal University was relocated to the Qishan Campus, with an area of about 1,600 square meters.
(IV) Construction of books and materials
After the reopening of the school, the reference room of our college and the biological branch of the school library were created accordingly. As of October 1987, the reference room had subscribed to 141 foreign language magazines, with many of them among the best in schools. In recent years, with the development of electronic information technology, many teachers have begun to access information through the Internet, but the reference room still plays a supporting role. Taking 2002 as an example, the reference room subscribes to 21 foreign language magazines throughout the year.
There are 4,213 Chinese journals and 7,171 foreign journals in the Biology Branch Library of the school library, for a total of 11,384. The biological branch was withdrawn in 2005 and merged with the main branch.
(V) Campus Construction
Prior to the overall relocation of the School of Life Sciences, it had an independent campus. There are many famous old trees in the courtyard, the green grass is full of trees, the paths are quiet, and the environment is very beautiful. It is a rare biological park in China's colleges and universities. The school has a biological building (built in 1953, 1009.50M), a new biological building (built in 1975, 1961.60 M), a college building (built in 1994, 4690M), a specimen building (built in 1980, 234.90 M), developmental biology Experimental building (built in 1987, 331.10M), Shuangan building (built in 1992, 480.7 M), cell engineering building (built in 1986, 262.8 M), fermentation workshop (built in 1998, 990 M), experimental fish pond (1985 Built, 300 M), student dormitory building (built in 1986, 972 M), cafeteria (built in 1984, 750 M) and other facilities.
In 2006, after the college was relocated to Qishan Campus as a whole, the administrative office was located on the second floor south of the new campus's science and engineering building, with an area of about 605M. There are 1 experimental building for teaching (Building 11 of Science and Engineering Building) and 2 experimental building for scientific research (Building 10 and 12 of Engineering Building), with a total area of 13,000 M. The planting and experimental animal breeding base covers an area of about 5 acres. Student accommodation and campus greening are managed by the school.
