What are the different types of employment in the public sector?

Employment in the public sector generally defines employment by the central government. In the United States (USA), this includes a federal government, state governments and local governments such as regions or cities. In the public sector there are generally large job varieties, from lower qualified jobs in maintenance and office to professional jobs such as doctors and lawyers. Maintenance of roads and mass transit systems is a large part of the public sector's employment, as well as jobs in education, social services and law enforcement.

Education is one of the largest areas of employment in the public sector. Most of all countries offer some type of public education and people who work in this system are generally paid.
