What is Nasdaq?
Nasdaq is an American exchange based in New York. Nasdaq, which was originally an abbreviation for automated quotations of the National Sealers Association, is the second largest stock exchange in the United States in terms of the value of its securities that only monitors the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Many of the world's largest technology companies appear on NASDAQ, including Amazon, Apple, Cisco, Ebay, Google, Intel, Microsoft and Sun. The stock exchange is a place where people can buy and sell shares in a publicly owned company. The Exchange helps the buyer and the seller to deal with the price and charge the fee for his service.
Nasdaq differs from NYSE, because its trading with shares is - and has always been - done electronically. For almost the first two decades, trading with Nasdaq shares has appeared saturated computer boards and by telephone. Now, however, NASDAQ trading occurs using automated trading systems, with complete reports on trades and the volumes of eachDodden trading.
While NYSE has a well -known Dow Jones industry as its primary index, NASDAQ offers NASDAQ 100 as its primary index. It consists of the 100 of the largest companies in market value traded on Nasdaq. The NASDAQ 100 companies include companies from various market sectors, except for financial services that are included in their own index. Every year, companies can be added and removed from NASDAQ 100, depending on their market value assessment. The index is a collection of shares, from several dozen companies to several thousand, which are combined to provide a picture of the performance of the entire market.
Every publicly traded company can only be alnocking its shares to be traded on one stock exchange. When the company initially starts offering shares to the public, it selects the stock exchange to which it will trade. Sometimes the company movesfrom one stock exchange to another.
When viewing the performance of shares on ticker shares, you will see that supplies were traded on NASDAQ using a four -digit shortcut, with only a few exceptions. Shares traded on NYSE use an abbreviation of three, two- or one letters. When browsing stock performances on the financial news channel or in the newspaper, you will see shares NASDAQ and NYSE listed side by side.
Standard purchase and sale of NASDAQ is from 9:30 to 16:00. Eastern time in most everyday life, with the exception of several holidays. Business sessions before and around the market allow purchase and sale outside the standard market hours.
