What are water warts?

Water warts are skin eruptions caused by a virus known as Molluscum Contagiosum. These warts usually appear as small blisters filled with liquid that tends to occur in groups. While the water warts themselves are usually painless, the surrounding skin can become red and irritated due to scratches or clothing that is shaking for lesions. The fluid inside the blisters is highly contagious, so it is important to avoid direct contact with others to prevent the virus from spreading. Treatment of these types of warts is not always necessary, although topical drugs, cryotherapy or surgery can sometimes be used in an effort to remove warts.

As a member of the smallpox family, water warts are relatively common in children. In most cases, blisters disappear themselves within a few weeks or months. If several warts are present, they may not all disappear simultaneously. If there is extreme skin irritation or if the presence of lesions causes or loss of self -confidence,The doctor may decide to remove the warts instead of allowing them to run their course.

Adolescents and adults can be infected with water warts due to sexual contact with an infected person. Transmission can also occur by sharing clothing, towels or bed linen with a person who has been infected with Molluscum Contagiosum. Anyone who has been diagnosed with this virus should take measures such as the use of a condom, as well as separate towels or other laundry to avoid infection of others.

Some medicines that are traditionally used to treat acne may be effective in getting rid of water warts in some cases. A substance known as silver nitrate can be used to burn warts alternately. None of these treatment methods is guaranteed immediately and will have to be repeated.

Cryotherapy is a procedure in which liquid nitrogen is used to freezeWart tissue to fall. In many cases, only one layer is removed at a time, causing repeated applications necessary. Some patients have seen mild to medium pain or discomfort related to this procedure.

In some cases, cryotherapy can be combined with surgical removal of water warts. The lesions are first frozen and then cut off with a scalpel. Laser surgery is also a relatively successful method of treatment for these warts. Although both of these procedures can completely remove warts, there is a high level of recurrence.
