What is a humerus fracture?

Humerus is the bone of the upper arm that connects the forearm to the shoulder. A fracture, from a medical point of view, is a break, so simply put, a fracture of humerus is a broken arm. There are many types of fractures described by medical science, but all refer to some type of bone break.

The upper arm fractures are classified according to their location on the bone. In most cases, the fracture of the humerus does not require surgery because the most common fracture in the bone shaft occurs. Fractures located near one of the ends of the humerus, where it connects to the elbow or shoulder, is more likely to require surgery.

A humerus fracture located near the shoulder joint is called a proximal fracture, due to its relative close to the center line of the body. This end of the humerus is a large rounded button that forms a ball of balls and shoulder joint. These types of fractures can lead to damage to tendons that connect humerus to the shoulderspoj.

The fracture of the middle shaft is a fracture located somewhere along the main shaft of the bone, from both ends where the bones thicken at the shoulders and elbow joints. This is by far the most common type of fracture of humerus and usually does not require surgery, because doctors can often match and set the bone without resorting to surgical procedure. However, this is only for simple fractures.

Distal fractures of the humerus are those in which the bone breaks near the elbow joint. These types of fractures are much more common in children than adults and may require surgery because there may be small chips or bone fragments. In all three types of fracture humerus it is possible to damage the radial nerve, but the most common in the fractures of the middle shaft. This may result in numbing parts of forearm and hand, although most people suffering from this type of injury are fully recovering for several months.

Treatment for most HU fracturesMero consists of orthosis or strap. The cast is often not even useful for these types of breaks. The patient must take care of as much as possible to delay the movement of the arm.

From a medical point of view, fractures can also be classified according to the type of fracture and location. When the broken ends of the bone protrude through the skin, there was a fracture, which is not a simple fracture. A fracture in which the bone broke into more than two pieces is a crushed fracture. If the ends of the bone are not aligned after the fracture, the break is called a relocated fracture.
