What Is a Picture Archiving and Communication System?
Picture archiving communication system (PACS) is a device for storing and transmitting images, not an imaging device. At present, X-ray images, CT and MRI are mostly archived in the form of photographs in the radiology archives. When needed, secondment from the archives room occupies a lot of manpower. During the secondment, photos are lost or mistakenly taken, and the efficiency is low. As the application of image diagnosis technology becomes more and more popular, the number of images has increased greatly. Photo archiving and secondment are large and inconvenient. Therefore, people have proposed to store and transmit images in another way, so that the images can be used efficiently and stored safely. This vision was made possible by the development of computers, archiving devices and communication technologies.
