What is staphyloma?
Staphyloma is an abnormal protrusion of the eyeball. The condition may be less or serious, depending on the severity of the protrusion and its location on the eyeball. In many cases, Staphyloma is the result of serious nearsightedness due to a serious extension of the eyeball. In such cases, the weakened tissue is demolished from the eye by thinning or weak scheme. There are currently no medical treatment for staphyloma. Many cases of staphyloma occur in the back of the eye and do not go unnoticed until the patient complains about the loss of vision or medical test, does not expose the condition.
The most common cause of staphyloma is serious, progressive nearsightedness. Myopia, also known as close Serededess, usually results from an unusually elongated eyeball. The oval shape of the eyeball stretches the tissue producing vision on the back of the eye, called the retina and Thins with an external protective membrane of the eyeball, called sclera. Liquid gelatinous material filling the eye called ton bent gel and uveal tissueThe support shape of the eye protrudes from the place. Other less common causes of staphyloma are trauma, scleritis, glaucoma, infections and inflammation.
In many cases, the staphyloma occurs on the back or back of the eyeball. The anterior staphyloma occurs in the cornea and is often the result of eye infection, inflammation or side effect of eye surgery. In the front staphyloma, the weak cornea cannot keep the contents of the eye and the corneal tissue bulges in front of the eye. The sale seems to be black or purple blue, due to the dark color of the uveal layers of the eye.
Staphyloma is very rare among African Americans and Caucasians, but occurs mainly between Asians and the Middle East. The eye test may detect the presence of staphyloma, obvious from the patient's axial length of over 1.02 inches (26.5 mm), exophoria, in which Eaxis of one eye is largely delighted by the other and chronic glaucoma. A more definitive expansion examination of eye eyes mIt can show the rear atrophy of the eyeball, liquefaction and excessive floats in the eye -legged gel, cracks or retinal separation and cracks in the inner membrane of the eyeball.
Staphyloma itself is not harmful or fatal. However, this condition may damage vision in patients whose vision is already seriously endangered by degenerative nearsightedness. Medical experts currently offer no treatment or staphyloma treatment, but if possible, they try to solve the retina separation by laser treatment and nearsightedness using correction lenses.
