What is endovaginal ultrasound?
Ultrasonic scan is a medical imaging test in which sound waves are transmitted from the probe and bounce back. Rebumed sound waves are used to create a picture of a scanned area, which then appears on the screen as a black and white image. Endovaginal ultrasound, sometimes known as transvaginal ultrasound, includes a probe inserted into the vagina. Compared to the abdominal ultrasound, which includes a probe moved over the skin of the abdomen, endovaginal ultrasound provides a more detailed image of the pelvic organs, especially the womb and ovaries.
Although many ultrasound types are made from the outer body, it is sometimes necessary for an ultrasonic probe to be placed inside the body and one example is endovaginal ultrasonic scan. Inner ultrasonic scanning is commonly used to view prostate, stomach, gallbladder and esophagus. Although these types of medical tests can be unpleasant, they are not common.
D Endovaginal ultrasonic procedure may be asked to empty its bladder and put on a hospital dress. The position needed for scanning is similar to the position of the pelvic test or the paint test, lying with bent knees and legs stretched apart. A slim probe is introduced into the vagina, covered with a clean coat and a layer of gel and the images are taken from different angles. This technique provides a detailed view of the walls and lining of the womb and the cavity inside with the ovaries.
endovaginal ultrasound are used to explore symptoms such as pelvic pain, pelvic lumps, abnormal vaginal bleeding and problems during pregnancy. Conditions that can be seen more clearly in endovaginal ultrasound include growth inside the womb, such as fibroids and polyps. Further information obtained from endovaginal scanning can help vdiagnosis of ovarian cysts and cancer of the womb or ovaries. In an emergency, endovaginal ultrasound may be more convenient than the abdominal ultrasound because the patient does notmust have a full bladder.
One of the disadvantages of endovaginal ultrasound is that the patient may experience greater discomfort and the procedure can be a little more embarrassing than abdominal scanning. In addition, the abdominal ultrasound has a larger field of vision that allows viewing the cysts and growth in the upper part of the pelvis, which could be out of the extent of endovaginal scanning. More than one type of scan may sometimes be necessary to complete the condition. Usually scanning does not last too long and no harmful effects are known.
