What is chemosis?

Chemosis is a general term that can be used to describe eye irritation, especially with reference to the conjunctiva, which is a muff membrane covering the eyeball and inside the lid. The condition is most often characterized by the occurrence of fluid retention around the outer surface of the eye. This can sometimes cause such extensive swelling that the closure of the eye is difficult. This infection, also known as the pink eye , is one type of conjunctivitis. The pink eye can be very contagious, especially among children. Other symptoms of infection, in addition to chemical chemisa, may include watery eyes with discharges and discomfort or itching. The pink eye often affects one eye first, but usually moves to both. These painful and often itching of welding USUally occurs around the mouth and eyes, as well as on the hands, legs and neck. Chemosis can also be related to hyperthyroidism , a condition caused by excessive thyroid gland and sarcoidosis , a disease that can cause inflammation in organs, including eyes, lymph nodes, lungs and skin.

tuberculosis , a contagious bacterial infection that primarily affects the lungs can also lead to chemosis of the eye. Reiter's syndrome , better known as reactive arthritis, can cause similar eye irritation. This inflammatory condition can affect not only the eye but also the urethra and joints.

Home treatment to easeCOMPANY CHECKS may include cold compression on the affected eye and over -the -counter oral or topical antihistamines. The conditions should be improved as soon as the basic cause is identified and treated. Patients are recommended to see a doctor, especially if they experience other, more serious symptoms such as vision changes, breathing or fainting problems.
