What Is Tissue Doppler Imaging?
University of Edinburgh scholars Sutherland and McDicken first reported that color Doppler flow imaging technology was used to display myocardial activity, such as aortic wall and heart valve. Imaging using this technique is called Doppler Tissue Imaging (DTI), also known as Tissue Doppler Imaging (TDI). DTI technology is based on the different characteristics of red blood cells and ventricular wall (myocardial) movement. Red blood cells move fast with low energy, and myocardium moves slowly with higher energy than red blood cells. Therefore, with proper filtering conditions and proper gain selection, myocardial motion can be displayed without displaying blood flow.
