What Is Tooth Resorption?
Internal resorption of tooth refers to the normal dental pulp tissue becomes granulation tissue, in which osteoclasts begin to absorb hard dental tissue from the inside of the medullary cavity, making the wall of the medullary cavity thin. In severe cases, it can cause pathology. Teeth break.

- Internal resorption of tooth refers to the normal dental pulp tissue becomes granulation tissue, in which osteoclasts begin to absorb hard dental tissue from the inside of the medullary cavity, making the wall of the medullary cavity thin. In severe cases, it can cause pathology. Teeth break.
- 1. Symptoms are generally unconscious symptoms, mostly found by accident during X-ray examination. A few cases may show symptoms of pulpitis such as spontaneous paroxysmal pain, diffuse pain, and temperature-stimulated pain.
- 2. Signs
- (1) When internal absorption occurs in the medullary compartment, the color of the granulation tissue can be absorbed into a thin layer of tooth hard tissue to make the crown pink. Occasionally a small dark area of the crown can be seen. When internal absorption occurs in the root canal, the color of the crown does not change.
- (2) The response of the affected tooth to the endodontic test may be normal, or it may be dull.
- (3) Negative diagnosis (-) or discomfort (±).
- 1. Thoroughly remove the pulp tissue for complete root canal treatment.
- 2. If the absorption zone has penetrated the root canal wall, the root canal can be treated with calcium hydroxide preparation. After the X-ray examination has formed the calcified tissue, the root canal can be filled.
- 3. The root canal wall absorbs too much, and the affected teeth should be removed obviously.
- The diet should be light, pay attention to hygiene, and match the diet reasonably.
- There is no effective preventive measure for this disease. Early detection and early diagnosis are the key to the prevention and treatment of this disease.
- The cause of intra-dental absorption is unknown, but most often occur in teeth that have been traumatized, re-implanted, and teeth that have undergone live amputation or capping.
- Laboratory inspection:
- Other auxiliary checks:
- X-ray films show a limited and enlarged swelling area in the medullary cavity. In severe cases, the wall of the medullary cavity at the internal absorption is penetrated, and even the root fracture line appears (Figure 1).
