What Is Trichophyton?
Trichophyton (scientific name: Trichophyton ) is a fungus under the phylum Ascomycota. Its mycelium can produce smooth and straight large conidia (macroconidia) and many small conidia (microconidia). Among them, the large conidia grow directly on the side of the hypha, which is rod-shaped or spun-like, and the size is about 4-8 by 8-50 microns. Macroconidia are rare or absent in most species of this genus. Microconidia are round, pear-shaped, rod-shaped, or irregular, with a size of about 2-3 by 2-4 microns. Trichophytons infect human skin, hair follicles and nails and cause skin infections.
