How can I reinstall Microsoft® Windows ™?
You can reinstall Microsoft® Windows ™ one of two ways: fresh installation or installation through the previous version. The new installation does not retain previous settings, installed programs or data. The system must be converted from scratch. If you reinstall Microsoft® Windows ™ before the previous installation, settings and programs are maintained. Sometimes the situation will require one type of installation over the other.
There are circumstances that require a new installation, for example when the system is infected with rootkit. Rootkits can infiltrate the operating system in such a way as to be problematic, not if impossible. The only way to be sure that eradic rootkit is to reformat the drive and destroy all data. Once the unit is reformatted, you can reinstall Microsoft® Windows ™ using a compact disk that was supplied with a machine or purchased retail version.

It will find the unit, ask if you want to create partitions and format the drive, and then reinstall Microsoft® Windows ™ for you.
The retail version of Windows (and some OEM drives) comes with the possibility to fix Windows. Use this option to reinstall Microsoft® Windows ™ in the previous version to maintain settings and install programs. The process takes almost as long as the new installation and the alternative version of Windows system files will be replaced by originals. This means that you will need to reinstall Hotfixs or Microsoft updates that have been released after the CD is produced as soon as the installation process has been completed.
It is always preferable to reinstall Microsoft® Windows ™ before the previous version if you can get away with it because it saves an unspeakable time. The new installation means starting again, tuneing the system from scratch and reinstalling every program, re -configuring each program to taste. It also means exchanging datafiles from the source of backup or their loss if the backup has not been made. In some cases, however, fresh installation is the only way to repair a damaged or infected system.
