How Does an Antivirus Program Work?

The anti-virus technology embedded in the CPU is a hardware anti-virus technology that works with the operating system to prevent most attacks (mostly viruses) against buffer overrun vulnerabilities. Intel's anti-virus technology is Exable Disable Bit (EDB), and AMD's anti-virus technology is Enhanced Virus Protection (EVP), but no matter what they are called, their principles are similar.
