The blackboard system is a problem-solving model. It is a conceptual framework for organizing inference steps, controlling state data, and domain knowledge of problem solving. It organizes the problem-solving space into one or more application-related hierarchical structures. Each level of information in the hierarchy is described by a unique vocabulary, which represents a partial solution to the problem.
