What is a distributed firewall?

Firewall is a software system used to protect network computers from unauthorized access and potential installation of malicious software. It is somewhat similar to the traditional or peripheral gateway, but rather than establishing topography for access and confidence in the network, it provides individual system protection. The distributed firewall basically works through a software that is "distributed" to every computer on a network that then communicates with the central control system. Approval of access to users or different network ports is then released on each computer and user rather than for the network as a whole. The traditional firewall system, sometimes called the circuit firewall, works by providing the entire network protection on the router or modem. For example, if there are five computers on the network that are all connected to the router that provides them with Internet access, then the router is likely to have the primary firewall for this network.

Unlike this, the distributed firewall works at an individual level without determining any topography for this network. Each computer has software that works as a firewall that has been "distributed" throughout the network than isolated on a single system. At one terminal there is a central driver for this distributed firewall, usually the one that is used for system management.

Access control and port connecting to the port go through each individual computer that pulls out the request from the control system. The distributed firewall uses the "policy" system that identifies users and ports to whichto connect the system. These principles are kept on the computer administrator and sent to other systems to indicate what files or ports in the network are safe or trustworthy. This gives each computer to the network individual security from the attack, even from the one that can come from the network and the firewall.

Network networks should usually use both circuit and distributed firewall to ensure optimal security. The circuit enables more widespread control over the system and diverts a wide range of potential attacks. However, the use of the distributed firewall gateway provides additional safety and allows protection against more accurate and targeted attacks.
