What Is a Link Block?
A transceiver in optical fiber communications that converts signals between electrical signals on a host bus adapter (and other similar Fibre Channel devices) and electrical or optical signals suitable for transmission. Abbreviated as GLM. The Gilbert Link Module allows designers to design only one type of device, but is able to adapt to copper or fiber optic transmission applications. The use of Gigabit link modules is much less than the use of Gigabit interface converters, because Gigabit link modules cannot be hot-plugged.
