What Is an Absolute Path?

The absolute path refers to the absolute position under the directory, which directly reaches the target position, usually the path starting from the drive letter.

Advantages of absolute paths in network applications ^[1] :

1. To prevent malicious plagiarism of websites, use absolute paths. If someone plagiarizes and collects your content, the links inside will still point to your website. Some plagiarism is lazy, and even the links inside are copied over.

2. If the webmaster cannot perform a 301 redirect and there is a problem with URL standardization, using an absolute path will help the link point to the selected URL version.

3. Even if the webpage is moved, the link inside still points to the correct URL.

Disadvantages of absolute paths:

1. Unless the link is dynamically inserted, there is no way to test it on a test server. Because the link inside will directly point to the real domain URL, not the URL in the test server.

2. Unless links are dynamically inserted, moving content pages will be difficult. Because the content page location changes, links on other pages may not follow, and they also point to the original absolute path that was hard-coded.
