What is RTF editor?
The rich text format editor, also known as the RTF editor, is a piece of software capable of opening and manipulating with rich text files. The rich text format is format specific to Microsoft®, but many third -party applications use it. This specification is regularly updated by Microsoft®, often coinciding with the release of the new version of Office Microsoft®. The format was the subject of discussion, mostly people who rely on it. These stylistic aspects are transparent for users that see only formatting. This is a step from simple text editors that simply store characters and do not allow formatting.
The first RTF specifications were developed in the mid -80s to match Microsoft® Word 3.0. This program was the first real editor of RTF. Since then, specifications have undergone many changes, usually allowing new types of formatting or removing unused options.
RTF editor uses a code similar to the web pages code. The headers contain information about document formatting and inline marks indicate specific formats. In general, the RFT editor is backward compatible with all different versions of the document type, which allows you to properly open very old documents, even if the inserted code is no longer used. These programs simply ignore any code that they do not understand and display non -formatted text on the screen.
RTF specifications have been subject to controversy over the years. The latest version of the RTF is rarely released before the corresponding version of Office Microsoft®. This allows Microsoft® for several weeks or even months so that its programs are the only ones that are able to handle the latest rich textus document. Many rivals claim that this is done specifically to ensure third -party manufacturers and increasing the share of Microsoft's® market.
Several third -party companies are now working on the RTF editor. Previously web editors requiredLY User built or HTML code if they should create consistent formatting. This created a steep learning curve for many users. The new online RTF editors are designed to connect to other web applications such as content management, and allows consistent formatting of the standard RTF editor on the web.
