What Is Fiber-Optic Internet?
Optical Internet refers to the Internet using IPoverWDM technology. Its router is directly connected to a specific wavelength of the WDM system. The IP network and the optical network are under the same control plane. For a single IP business model, it runs the same routing protocol and maintains a common topology information database. IP equipment and optical network equipment are visible to each other. When routing is performed, these two equipments participate together to achieve unified traffic engineering, which can optimize the use of network resources according to the characteristics of IP services. The upper layer is a data network, and the bottom layer uses an optical transport network (OTN) as the physical transmission network. The components of the data network are mainly asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switches, routers, etc. [1]
