What is iscsi?

Internet Small Computer System Interface (ISCSI) is a protocol that allows remote access to different media. This in itself does not mean that ISCSI differs from other protocols. However, the ISCSI protocol enables remote access via a standard line of transmission/Internet report control (TCP/IP) - the same type used to access the Internet. The use of ISCSI is primarily a business nature.

ISCSI also allows the user to remotely access SCSI devices from a distance without losing high speed compared to the physical connection of SCSI. However, it sends the same commands used by SCSI software via the network. This is true for Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN). It is amazing that one particular ISCSI test has allowed users in Israel Haifa to access the hard disk in Washington in Seattle.

ISCSI could be useful, for example, if someone needed a file stored on a hard drive at home. If the person is on the ODThe path and no one is at home to place the file on the log server (FTP), the user would not be able to access until someone arrives on the home computer to place the file on the server. However, if the file was stored on the SCSI hard drive, the user would be able to download data from his home computer to his business computer.

There are alternatives to ISCSI. Traditional storage networks (SANS) can do a lot of what iscsi does to potentially greater degree of efficiency. However, most SAN protocols are not very economically healthy, because more hardware often costs more than burning data on a floppy disk and sending a hotel. As a result, other San protocols are the best choice for financially limited organizations.

ISCSI is not without errors. Its nature limits it to computers that operate the CSI, which allows the function of the protocol. Slow TCP/IP connection would have for usLED slow connection ISCSI because they are connected in principle. This can be dramatically compensated by the arrival of the Gigabit Ethernet modem. This allows fast data transfer speed, but it is not too economically healthy.

The use of ISCSI is many, as well as disadvantages. Some of them may be canceled in the future due to progress in technology - perhaps even in ISCSI itself. After all, it's just a beta version of the protocol that is currently on the market.
