What Is Proprietary Data?

A private data network is a data network that is established, owned, managed, and used by an enterprise, organization, or department to meet its own needs.

The so-called private data network is designed to meet the needs of one or several large groups and departments, and the ownership also belongs to the network of this group or department. For example, the weather network is a typical example. Dedicated data network has strong pertinence, good transmission quality, strong confidentiality, and short construction period, although the utilization rate is not as good
In order to achieve its construction goals, the establishment of industry-specific data communication networks should follow the following principles:
(1) It is necessary to design the network according to the basic conditions such as the scale, organizational structure and business characteristics of various industries and the needs of the industry, and pay attention to the unity of practicality and advancedness;
(2) Data flow and flow analysis should be performed. The selected solution should meet current needs and medium- and long-term development goals, and have scalability and easy management functions;
(3) It has the safety and reliability to meet the special requirements of the industry;
(4) Compatible with existing private networks, facilitating the access or smooth transition of each private system. [2]
In the private data network, the connection between the computer and the data terminal is shown in the figure on the right.
Dedicated data network connection
The characteristics of each connection method are as follows:
Point-to-point connection
Point-to-point connection is the simplest. The computer and the terminal are connected by a dedicated direct line, and no special communication control signal is required. However, the point-to-point method uses a large number of lines and interfaces, so it is only suitable for occasions with a small number of terminals and a small terminal distribution area. [1]
2. Polling multiple points
In the polling multipoint method, multiple terminals are connected to the computer by a common circuit, which is economical in terms of line cost. However, in terms of communication control and management, the polling multipoint method requires specialized control software and unified communication procedures, thereby increasing the complexity of computer program design. [1]
3. Multiplexed network
The multiplexing network uses time division multiplexing technology, so it is also more economical in line costs. The transmission lines between the multiplexers are high speed. Generally, the communication rate of the high-speed line should be at least equal to the sum of the communication rates of the terminals. This connection method is especially suitable for situations where a multiplexer is required and each terminal needs an independent interface to the computer. [1]
4. Software Multiplexing Network
A software multiplexed network is a software that enables a computer to automatically identify the data format on a high-speed line and thereby distinguish which terminal the data came from. This method saves hardware costs, but increases the cost of software compilation, storage capacity, and computer time. [1]
5. Hub Network
The use of a hub to concentrate data transmission services from many terminals on a small number of lines without using a multiplexer constitutes a hub network. The communication service processing capability of this method lies between the polling and multiplexing methods. [1]
6. Software Controlled Hub Network
Adding data buffer storage function to the hub to make it have data processing capabilities can further reduce the number of communication lines and computer interfaces. A hub with data storage and processing capabilities usually uses a small general-purpose computer to complete data processing functions through a control program. [1]
In large private data networks, different networks can be used according to the characteristics of different network levels
Schematic diagram of hierarchical dedicated data network
Connection method, as shown on the right. The network level with high traffic volume is directly connected to the computer by a dedicated line method, and the terminals with low traffic volume can communicate with the computer by polling through the hub. [1]
