What is secondary memory?

Secondary memory is a type of computer memory that is not directly accessible by the central processing unit (CPU) of the computer and is usually available as an independent memory. One of the most common forms of this memory is the hard disk of a computer that is used to store the operating system (OS) and other programs. Other forms of secondary memory include disk units for compact disks (CDS) or digital versatile disks (DVDs) as well as removable flash memory. Unlike this, the primary memory with computer memory is directly accessible CPU, usually volatile memory and tertiary memory concerns systems outside the computer that can be directly accessed by different means.

There are several different types of memory used by computer systems and secondary memory is one of the most common and most important. Tento typ paměti je obvykle rozpoznán tím, jak jej používá počítačový systém a způsob, jakým jsou na něm uložena data. Hlavní charakteristika sekundárního mEmory je to, že není přístup přímo CPU, but instead through a connection that allows CPU to use it. This type of memory is also usually a non -naughty memory, which means it retains data without energy source.

One of the most common types of secondary memory is the hard disk on the computer. To this unity, the CPU is accessible through one of several different indirect methods and the data remains on the drive without power. Other disk units, such as those used with CD and DVD, are also types of secondary memory used for other purposes. Easily removable types of memory, such as Flash Drives, are also secondary memory and use interfaces such as Port Universal Serial Bus (USB) to be CPU access.

In addition to secondary memory, many computer systems also use primary memory, tertiary memory and offline storage. The primary memory is a note on the computer to which the CPU is directly accessible, namelyMemory with random access (RAM) and memory used to store the basic input/output system (BIOS). Tertiary memory is usually an external memory that the computer has access directly through a type of automated system, such as a bank of hard drives that can be connected to a computer using a robotic fittings. Offline storage is a memory that can be used and approached, such as servers that can be used via the Internet connection for backup or data storage.
