What is Socket 462?

Socket 462, also known as Socket A, is a central drawer for processing (CPU) or processor socket, which the manufacturer of ATHLON semiconductors designed mainly designed for its second and third generation production of personal computer chips (PC). Number 462 means the number of holes for pins to which the CPU pins are connected. With its introduction in 2000, the Socket 462 set out on the way of the previous CPU sockets in mechanically and electrically connecting processors with a motherboard. There are two types of PGA: Ceramic grid fields (CPGA), which means that the socket is made of ceramics; and the field of the organic pin (OPGA), which indicates its production of organic plastics. The physical dimensions of the socket 462 include a width of 2.6 inches (6.55 centimeters) and 2.2 inches (5,59 -centimeter) length. Intel usually uses zero advertising (ZIP) for this outlet to eliminate the force for connection or removal of the CPU. This is useful for preventing possible processor damage. This means that the chip must be able toCome 200, 266, 333 or 400 million gears per second (Mt/s). The socket itself uses the operating voltage range of 1 to 2.05 V).

AMD primarily produced a 462 socket for the second and third generations of production-Thunderbird and XP/MP. They appeared in 2000 and 2001. AMD also used it for Duron, which was at that time his low end CPU and appeared in the same year as Thunderbird Athlon. When the company replaced Durona in 2004, it started with new chips on the socket. The fifth brand compatible with the Socket 462 is a Geode NX, a chip that combines the properties of the computer system and was once made by a national semiconductor.

In 2003, the year AMD took over Geode NX production rights from National Semiconductor, introduced the Socket 754 as a socket for Athlon 64, which was the immediate successor of Athlon XP. With this outlet AMD increased the number of holes for pins by almost 70 percent. The following year, the Socket 939 appeared for the same purpose, which more than doubled the holes for pins 462. The arrival of these components indicated the end of the dominance of the socket 462, although it retained it for the NX chips.
