What is super 3G?
Super 3G is a wireless network standard for mobile phones that can offer wireless downlink up to 100 megabits per second (MBP). Super 3G is also often referred to as high -speed downlink packets Access (HSDPA) .
Super 3G is another phase of developing the existing 3G standard. 3G concerns the third generation of mobile communication technology and promises increased bandwidth-384 kilobytes per second (KBPS) for stationary or slowly moving devices, 128 kbps in a movable vehicle and 2 Mbps for fixed applications. It works via wireless interfaces such as GSM, CDMA and TDMA. Super 3G is a reaction to the need for a larger bandwidth across the radio spectrum. Super 3G also has great opportunities for future services. Many believe it will be critical of the success of the cell phone and video, which is currently being tested by the O2 mobile phone supplier. It will also allow mobile operators to offer high -speed Internet access that competes with a fixed -line communication.
Super 3G started a 3G (3GPP) partnership project, more than 200 suppliers and mobile phone operators. The initial study was promoted by 26 3GPP members, including Alcatel, NTT Docomo, Cingular Wireless, Lucent, Nokia, Motorola, Nortel, Siemens, Qualcomm, T-Mobile, Ericsson and Vodafone. All 3GPP members cooperated on the further development of the Super 3G concept. 3GPP spokesperson said that the specifications for Super 3G can be prepared in June 2007.
O2 tested Super 3G in 2005 and planned a commercial process in the UK, Ireland and Germany at the end of 2006. Super 3G will originally be available in the Hotspot area in London and the company is being built.
In addition to the Super 3G network, users will have to own a super 3G handset. There are few suchphones. These include HTC Tytn Smartphone, Motorola Razr Maxx, Benq EF91 and O2 XDA Trion PDA.
Some experts, however, question doubts about Super 3G. NTT DOCOMO has been testing a 4G standard based on All-Internet-Protider since 1998. This can offer up to 200 Mbps and is considered a more cost-effective and high-speed alternative to Super 3G.
