What Are the Uses of High Carbon Stainless Steel?
Iron chrome is the most important raw material for the production of stainless steel. It is mainly used in the production of stainless steel, ball bearing steel, tool steel, nitrided steel, heat resistant steel, quenched and tempered steel, carburized steel and hydrogen resistant steel. It plays a decisive role. There is only one element that determines the properties of stainless steel. This is chromium. Each stainless steel must contain a certain amount of chromium.
High carbon ferrochrome
- Ferrochrome is the most important raw material for producing stainless steel. It is mainly used in the production of stainless steel,
- Alias : High-carbon ferrochrome [1]
- Ferrochrome should be in the form of a block. The weight of each piece should not be more than 15kg, and the weight of the ferrochrome block less than 20 × 20mm should not exceed 5% of the total weight of ferrochrome. When the purchaser has special requirements for particle size, the supply and demand parties shall agree separately.
- High-carbon ferrochrome is mainly used for stainless steel production. The chromium content of 200 series stainless steel is about 16%, the chromium content of 300 series stainless steel is about 25%, and the chromium content of 400 series stainless steel is about 14%. The 300 series stainless steel with the largest demand for ferrochrome is also the largest proportion of stainless steel production.
- Used as an alloying agent for high-carbon-containing ball steel, tool steel and high-speed steel to improve the hardenability of steel and increase the wear resistance and hardness of steel; as an additive to cast iron to improve the wear resistance and hardness of cast iron At the same time, the cast iron has good heat resistance; used as a chromium-containing raw material for the production of silicon-chromium alloys and medium, low and micro-carbon ferrochrome; Raw material for smelting stainless steel.
- The smelting methods of high-carbon ferrochrome include blast furnace method, electric furnace method, and plasma furnace method. The use of blast furnace can only produce special pig iron containing chromium at about 30%. As of 2012, most of the high-carbon high-chromium iron containing chromium has been smelted in the ore furnace by the flux method.
- The raw materials for smelting high-carbon ferrochrome include chrome ore, coke and silica.
- Smelting chrome ore
- Cr2O3 40%, Cr2O3 / FeO 2.5, S <0.05%, P <0.07%, the content of MgO and Al2O3 cannot be too high, and the particle size is 10 ~ 70mm. For refractory ore, the particle size should be appropriately smaller.
- Coke is required to contain no less than 84% fixed carbon, less than 15% ash, S <0.6%, and a particle size of 3-20mm.
- Silica is required to contain SiO2 97%, Al2O3 1.0%, good thermal stability, no soil, particle size 20 ~ 80mm.
