What Is a Backing Ring?

Ring-shaped stipule marks are leaves that leave a circle when large stipules fall off. It can be used as one of the basis for identifying woody plants in a deciduous state.

The stipule leaves remain ring-shaped stipule marks on the branch after shedding. [1]
Magnoliaceous plants have single leaves alternate, large stipules, and ring-shaped stipule marks on the branches after they fall off. [1]
Ficus,
Ring-shaped stipule marks [6]
Stigma leaves on stem after shedding. The stipule marks of different tree species are very different. For example, the stipule marks of Canadian poplar are triangular, and the stipule marks of chestnut have different shapes on both sides of the leaf mark. The stipule marks are narrow and long. The stipule marks of Ficus and Magnoliaceae are annular, that is, ring-shaped stipule marks. [5]
