What is the coil pump?

The target pump is a simple, cheap pump consisting of a rotating coil of hollow pipes partially submerged in the liquid. One end of the coil is left open in the outer diameter of the coil, with the other end, which moves towards the center of the coil and rises in a straight line with the axis of the coil. This end of the coil is equipped with a rotating seal that pushes against the drain piping of the pump. When the coil rotates, the open end took the liquid every time it plunges into a liquid body, while the rotary effect moves through the liquid through the coil and out of the drain pipe. Although these pumps are able to supply only low heads, they are extremely cost -effective and require minimal energy, which makes them ideal for country agricultural irrigation applications.

originally developed as an alternative to pumps such as Archimedean screw used in many developing countries to irrigate crops, coil pump onMiserable advantage of horizontal operation with the same or better head capabilities. The Archimedean screw must operate at approximately 30 ° to horizontal, which requires very specific ground planes profiles. The inclined attitude of these pumps also reduces the number of possible possibilities of practical drives. On the other hand, the coil pump runs horizontally, allowing the pump to be installed in the same plane as the body of the liquid and not on the slope. It is also easy to construct and maintain from easily accessible, cheap materials and require minimal effort.

The basic coil pump consists of a pipe coil, usually a PVC hose supported at one end drive drive. The end of the tube adjacent to the disc is left open in the outer diameter of the coil. The opposite end is the slope at the right angle towards the center of the coil and then again at the right angle to leave the coil axis. This allows this end of the coil to turn its own axis in the static position. Is equipped with a seal that rotates against the drain sweatThe pump rubs and creates a waterproof seal between the pump and the discharge circuit.

The whole coil is partially immersed in the liquid body, generally in the lake, pond or river. When the coil rotates, the open end is immersed at regular intervals under the surface of the fluid and took the amount of liquid at each passage. This fluid is then forced by a spool by rotary forces and eventually passes through the closed end and out into the discharge circuit. Although the coil pump cannot achieve impressive heads, reliability, low costs and ease of maintenance makes it ideal irrigation and general possibility of drawing rural for development nations.
