What is the lily column?
Lally is adjustable, a thin wall steel column usually a cylindrical cross -section used to support the structural elements. This type of column can be adjusted to meet the height requirements using a screw top plate or the courtesy of the telescopic arrangement of the internal members. Lally columns are generally used as temporary supports during the construction of permanent structural elements, although they can be left in situ as additional columns. The columns are usually equipped with head and foot boards to spread the load and prevent the cylinders from irritating to the supported wood.
When new buildings are being built and especially if older buildings need some structural intervention, it is often necessary to install temporary supports under the floors or rays. One of the cheapest, fastest and most effective ways of achieving this temporary support is the Lally column. These columns consist of hollow steel pipes equipped with wide legs on the bottom and height adjustable mechanism nAhora. These mechanisms are usually a screw section equipped with a header or a series of telescopic internal members that can be pulled out of the outer tube and locked in place when the desired height has been achieved. The lally column is also cheap enough to trim the outer tube and throw the foot plate if the column is too long.
The Lally column was originally applied to hollow steel columns that were sliced on site, and then filled with concrete to create permanent support. The first recorded use of this support method occurred at the end of the 18th century, when one John Lally used as supports of steel cylinders filled with concrete. These supports are often incorrectly referred to as lolly columns, are intended as temporary measures, although they are sometimes permanently employed. Lally columns are available in a wide selection of sags are about 12 inches (30 cm) long and giants 12 feet (3, 6 m) or more are common in some building sectors. The average setting range for the lily column is approximately 7 to 7-1/2 feet (about 2 m).
Lally column is often used to support floor beams for wearing and crawl space, while new columns or columns are installed. One point that needs to be kept in mind when using this type of temporary support is that the lily column must not be used to raise the structures. A suitable connector should be used to raise the structure so that the lily column for preliminary justra is located below it.
