What is a micrometer?

micrometer, often simply called a micrometer or microphone, is a finely calibrated measuring tool. Micrometer meters are commonly used in mechanical engineering and mechanical stores to precisely measure small distances or dimensions. Micrometer meters are produced in several configurations, but all rely on the same basic mechanism to make measurements. The measuring tip or spindle moves by a specific distance by turning the calibrated screw slightly fiber. When the spindle contacts the measured item, the dimension can be read on the dial or digital deduction. There are many specialized types of micrometers, but the three most common types are the outer micrometer, the inner micrometer and the depth micrometer. As names indicate, each micrometer meter has its own specific purpose.

The most famous type of micrometer is the outer micrometer. This tool is sometimes calved by a micrometer of the caliper because it usually has a caliper or "C" in the form C "and a spindle that moves when the screw is turnedup or down. The outer gauge of the micrometer is most often used to measure the thickness or length of the object or the diameter of the round or spherical object.

The internal micrometer can also have a caliper design, but is also available with a straight body. Instead of the spindle, it uses the internal meter of the micrometer measuring pad or points. They turn out and stretch towards the measured object as the screw turns. This design makes the inner micrometer ideal for accurate measuring the inner diameter of the hole or other hole.

Depth micrometer usually has a straight home design. This type of micrometer meter is often sold as a set, with interchangeable steel rods of different lengths. Adding the right length of the right length to the spindle meter allows the user to measure the distance from the bottom of the hole or groove. In some cases, a depth micrometer meter can also be adjusted for measuring a piece of height such as a pad orSpacer.

Regardless of the style, micrometer meters that are graded in inches can easily show values as small as 0.001 inches, and metric micrometers usually exhibit 0.01 millimeters. For even greater accuracy, some micrometers have an integrated vernier scale. Vernier scale gives users ten other gradations to further determine their dimensions. A micrometer meter equipped with vernier can measure as small as 0.0001 inches or 0.001 millimeters.
