What Is a Phase Splitter?

The stator of a standard split-phase motor includes two-phase windings, that is, the main winding and the auxiliary winding. The inductance ratios of these two sets of windings are different. They are connected to a single-phase AC power supply. Therefore, the line current is divided into two parts. Through the main winding, the other part flows through the auxiliary winding. Due to the different resistance and inductance ratios of the two sets of windings, the phase difference of the current flowing through each winding is 30 ° or more. [1]
