What Is a Pulling Unit?

Traction is a Chinese vocabulary, pronounced qin yn, with pull and drag; motivate, cause; quote, meaning of quotation. Tang Fengyan's "Feng Shi Wen Jian Ji · Tug of War", Wei Wei's "Oriental" Chapter IV and other chapters have related records.

Traction Introduction

Traction, one of the rehabilitation methods. Use special traction belts and devices to perform stretching exercises on a part of the human body. The purpose is to increase the vertebral space and intervertebral foramen, relieve the compression of nerve roots and twist of vertebral arteries, relieve muscle spasm, and restore the protruding intervertebral disc. Commonly used are cervical traction for cervical spondylosis, pelvic (lumbar) traction for lumbar disc herniation, and functional traction for improving and enhancing joint function of the extremities. The device can be a non-motorized traction bed using a hammer, a spring scale or a screwed screw as the traction force, or a motorized traction bed controlled by an electronic device.
If divided according to joints, traction can be divided into spine or limb traction. In clinical practice, spinal traction is more commonly used; in spinal traction, lumbar traction and cervical traction are the most common.

Traction cervical traction

effect
Cervical traction is the most important and effective method in conservative treatment of cervical spondylosis. Its therapeutic effect is achieved by the following aspects:
  1. Restricting the movement of the cervical spine, reducing repeated friction and bad stimulation on the compressed spinal cord and nerve roots can help the edema and inflammation of the spinal cord, nerve roots, joint capsules, muscles and other tissues to fade.
  2. Increase the intervertebral space and intervertebral foramen, reduce or even relieve the stimulation and compression of nerve roots.
  3. It relieves muscle spasms, restores the balance of the cervical spine, reduces the internal pressure of the intervertebral disc, and cushions the pressure of the disc around.
  4. The facet joint space is retracted, the synovial incarceration is released, and the normal sequence and interrelationship between the cervical vertebrae is restored.
  5. The vertebral artery twisted between the transverse process holes can be straightened, and the blood supply of the pushing artery is improved.
  6. The cervical spinal canal is elongated, the spinal cord is stretched, the ligamentous ligament wrinkles are flattened, and the spinal canal volume is relatively increased. Correct traction treatment not only relieves muscle spasms, but also improves nerve root stimulation symptoms.
method
Traction power: The purpose of traction is to increase the cervical spine space without causing muscle and joint damage. The general sitting position is 2-3kg, and the lying position is about 10kg.
Traction time: generally 15-20 minutes. Too long time can cause static damage to muscles and ligaments.
Posture: Common postures are sitting and supine. The supine position can make the posterior widening of C4 C7 intervertebral space more obvious, and the angle can also be easily adjusted. The traction position in the sitting position is not easy to stabilize and the angle change is small, but the operation is relatively convenient.
Traction method: It can be divided into continuous traction and intermittent traction. Continuous traction maintains traction throughout the process; intermittent traction has several reductions in traction during traction. Those who are old and seriously ill should choose the latter.
Precautions
  1. When traction, the front part of the anti-tie should be placed on the lower jaw (commonly known as the "chin bone"). Do not slide to the front throat to avoid choking. Especially when the patient's upper limbs are weak, family members should take care of each traction, because once the pillow and necktie slides toward the throat, the patient cannot adjust the position by himself [2] .
  2. It is not necessary to force a specific position of the head and neck when traction, and it is advisable to reduce the patient's conscious symptoms. Generally speaking, experts believe that the patient's head and neck should lean forward by about 20 during traction. Because the widening of the intervertebral space is most obvious at this position. In some patients, the traction effect of the neck neutralization card (commonly known as head and neck straightening) is not obvious, and the head and neck forward (flexion) 20 is used instead. Bit traction, the symptoms soon improved.
  3. Intermittent traction is used for mild patients 1 to 3 times a day for 30 minutes each time, and continuous traction is feasible for severe patients for 6 to 8 hours per day. Traction weight can start from 3 to 4 kg, and gradually increase to 5 to 6 kg, up to 10 kg. In the first few days of traction treatment, a small number of patients may have dizziness, bloating or neck and back fatigue, especially in patients with sympathetic and vertebral artery cervical spondylosis. In this case, you should start traction from a small weight and short time, and then gradually increase the traction weight and extend the traction time according to the specific situation of the patient. Individual patients cannot tolerate traction treatment, and should use other treatment methods. A small number of people suffer from symptoms after traction, which may be caused by the traction or compression of nerves or blood vessels, which should be stopped.

Traction lumbar traction

effect
Lumbar spine spurs (that is, lumbar osteoarthritis) and disc herniation to the sciatic nerve can be improved by lumbar traction; patients with tight back muscles can also use lumbar traction to relax muscles. Lumbar traction usually takes more than a month to achieve results. About 60% to 70% of patients are effective.
In addition, spinal stenosis is mostly related to bone spurs. Lumbar traction can also be used to improve symptoms, but the effect is relatively poor, about 50% effective.
method
Lumbar traction requires relatively large forces, so it is unlikely to use manual traction, and most of them use mechanical traction. Lumbar traction can be divided into intermittent and semi
Continuous two ways, the patient can lie on the bed or lying on the treatment bed.
Intermittent traction for about seven seconds and fifteen seconds of pause, lasting for to minutes; weight starts from a quarter of body weight (this weight can overcome the friction between the body and the bed), after a period of time, depending on the patient's The tolerance level gradually increases to half of the body weight.
Semi-continuous traction lasts for about two minutes to two hours. After a few minutes of rest, traction can be repeated for a total of about six to eight hours a day. The weight of the traction starts from six kilograms, and the patient's tolerance gradually increases to three thirds of the body weight. So far.
Usually semi-continuous traction is more commonly used in hospitalized patients, but some patients who are not hospitalized will also use semi-continuous traction because of the poor effect of intermittent traction. After ten minutes of continuous pulling, rest for a few minutes, and then repeat Towing.
Some patients may feel uncomfortable after lumbar traction, so they can reduce the weight of traction or use other rehabilitation methods. Because each person's response is different, some patients will be more sensitive when the cartilage or nerves in the acute stage are inflamed. Once they are stimulated (traction is also considered as a stimulus), they will feel uncomfortable. They can change to do it on their stomach, reduce weight or use Other methods do not have to be reluctant.
After the traction, the doctor or physical therapist will teach the patient how to "maintenance" the affected area, such as maintaining a normal posture and proper activities (such as sitting for a long time will reduce metabolism and release waste from the body, so you should move every half an hour. With a move, the cartilage can be replenished with nutrients and excreted waste, and it will not cause abnormal pressure on the spine.

Traction dental traction

Dental traction is traction in conjunction with orthodontic surgery. It consists of traction bow, braces and belt. The main role of traction is to move the teeth backwards or forwards to maintain aesthetics. You may feel toothache when wearing traction for the first time, but the symptoms will gradually disappear after two days. It can be worn for a few months, and for a few years, depending on the situation.
