What is a square file?
Square file is a metal tool with a rough surface used to remove a small amount of wood or metal from the workpiece. From six to 18 inches (15 - 46 cm) long, more or less, they have a generally narrow, pointed tang at one end designed to insert into a removable handle. Square files are wider at their base, but rarely more than a thumb (about 2.54 cm) and narrow to a narrow tip.
One of the most basic hand tools, RASPs were found in archaeological kicks that date 1200 - 1000 BC. Older RASP was made of brass and newer rasp were made of iron. Modern sets are made of hardened steel with a number of parallel ridges ordered into them or with industrial diamonds built on their surface.
Modern files have either one set of ridges or two slices at angles together. The file is called one -time when only one sa been cut outDA such ridges; Double-cut or Diamond-Cut file has two sets of comb and creates a diamond-shaped teeth. The more comb on the thumb, the finer the cut. From the smallest to the harshest, six generally recognized degrees of roughness of the set of dead, smooth, second cut, bastard, medium and rough. All four sides of the square file will cut teeth into them, although some files of other shapes remain with some smooth surfaces, so the teeth can be used directly to the edge of the inner corner without damaging the neighboring side.
Square file is reduced on the stroke of push; The craftsman holds the handle in one hand and puts the other hand palm to the front of the file and moves the file forward to the part of the workpiece from which the shares need to be removed. The best work is done when both hands are used to exert consistent pressure as well as file control. The use of the hand itself will not only lead in uneven cut, but there is a better chance that the set deviates the disintegrated work area. If they have toBeing removed from a large workpiece, many craftsmen make diagonal sections to cover more areas and create a more even surface.
When a square set is used to clean the right angle interior cut, such as woodworking mortar, sometimes it is not possible to provide pressure and instructions at the forward end of the file. If this is the case, the work is generally performed more slowly to prevent deviations in the cut and ensure the most conjunctive pressure.
Thesquare set is just one of the many woods and metal workers in their tool sets. Other favorite files are files of mills, round files and tannics, which are actually triangular. Many files are very small, sometimes not more than a quarter of the inch (6.35 mm) wide at its widest point. These smaller files, often called needle files, usually replicate the shape of their larger counterparts, and a set of miniature files will often include a square file, R Round file, a sorting file, among other things.Needle sets are very useful for detailed work in wood and metal, as well as for extinguishing from metal.
