What Is a Stop Block?
Stop lane refers to a rectangular area delimited by the runway centerline extension line on the ground immediately outside the runway end. The area is well prepared. When the aircraft interrupts take-off for some reason, it can slow down and stop on it; its strength should be able to support the aircraft that interrupted take-off without causing structural damage to the aircraft. - Relevant requirements for stop application:
- The width of the stopway is equal to the width of the runway to which it is connected. [2]
- The length of the stopway is determined by the takeoff performance of the aircraft, and the width is the same as the runway. Whether or not a stopway is provided depends on the operational performance of the intended aircraft and ground conditions beyond the runway end.
