What is the window header?

windows are supports found on the top of the window. In general, the supports are at least twice as thick as the frames found around the opening. The header will be extended horizontally through the upper part of the window and offers added support, which prevents the full weight of the wall at rest on the window case itself.

Found in residential and commercial buildings, windows headers help add stability to the wall and allow the window frame to be inserted. The traditional windows will be located near two beams, rafters or studs, depending on how the windows are located. By placing this stronger and shorter wooden beam under the support beam or rafters, but through the opening for the window, no tension is added on the beam. This means that after installing the window, the window frame will not have to carry any load to keep the wall section in accordance with the rest.

together with maintenanceUniform support for wall components and preventing further stress bearing loads on the beams and rafters, the headers of windows also help the overall structure to support and distribute the roof weight through the inner support walls and outer walls. The windows headers effectively allow parts of the walls above and around openings, such as doors and windows, support the same amount of loads as any other part. As a result, the roof load is carried evenly, without weakened areas that must be compensated at another point along the wall. From this point of view, the windows headers can be considered a good way to maintain the integrity of the entire structure and allow the building to settle correctly over the years.

The header of the windows is usually constructed with the same types of wood as when designing a wall frame. Not unusual to form a head of two parts of the framing wood to the appropriate lengths, then nailed or gluing together to form a thicker body.

is not uncommon for the header of the windows to replaceDuring part of the renovation of domestic improvement. This is especially true if new windows are inserted within the Renovation project. Once the old frame is removed, rafters or beams can be temporarily supported while the old header is removed and a new header is installed.
