What is an Ammunition Dump?

Ammunition storage in the open air, a method of storage and management of ammunition in the field in a short time. Usually used in wartime when it is too late to build simple warehouses and other buildings, as well as caves and mines. Storage of ammunition in this way is greatly affected by natural conditions, it is difficult to control the temperature and humidity, it is easy to damage the ammunition, and the storage time should not be too long. The storage site is usually selected in a concealed, dry, flat, solid and elevated place. Open-air ammunition is usually piled into a roof and covered with a cloth. During the hot season, keep a certain distance between the cover and the ammunition box for ventilation. Drainage ditches should be dug around the ammunition pile. Sleepers, crushed stones, empty boxes or other substitutes should be placed at the bottom of the pile. Flammables such as weeds within 30 meters around the pile should be removed to ensure the safety of the ammunition. [1]
