What is an antistatic mat?

Antistatic mat is a flat mat, usually made of material that can be reversed for easy storage, allowing the safe distribution of static electricity. Any type of electric shock, including built -up static electricity, can potentially damage some electrical components, including different types of computer hardware. The use of antistatic mats can prevent this type of damage by placing the motherboard, hard disk, random access memory (RAM) or other component on the mat while outside the computer. These mats usually have a wire length that can be connected to a grounded object and performs any electricity through the mat and outside the components. Many types of internal computer hardware may be damaged if exposed directly to electric shock. Such damage can effectively make hardware unnecessary, so the Commander Puter often provide these mats for employees. Computers can then be safely assembled on an antistatic mat to secureLO that components will not be damaged during installation on a computer tower or case.

Antistatic mat is relatively simple and usually consists of one or more layers of soft, flexible material. These layers include conductive material, which allows the mats to carry out electrical currents, including discharges from static electricity, to the mat and from everything to the mat. These mats usually have a wire length, often with a stopper or an alligator buckle that is used as a grounding wire for an antistatic mat. This conductor can then be connected to the grounding plug of the electrical outlet or to another grounded object, such as a grounded workbench that allows for safe grounding of any current of the mat.

Many computer hobbyists also use the antistatic mat to maintain a computer or install new components on your computer. At least would be anyone whoo works on the internal components of the computer should touch the metal frame of the computer to make sure it does not have static electricity on its body. The antistatic bracelet can also be used with an antistatic mat, which can be worn around the wrist of a person doing maintenance on a computer. This bracelet contains a grounding wire that usually connects to the mat, so any charge created on a person is released by the grounding line of the mat.
