What is Expanding Foam?

Styrofoam, as the name suggests, is a type of glue with foaming properties and bonding properties. It is mainly used for filling, sealing, and bonding of door and window side seams, component expansion joints and holes. It is a polyurethane elastic sealing foam material that relies on moisture curing. Styrofoam is made of polyurethane prepolymer, foaming agent, catalyst, cross-linking agent, etc. into high-pressure resistant iron cans, and is filled with gas such as propane. It is divided into two types: gun type and tube type. The gun type requires a special polyurethane foam gun to be used. The tube type is equipped with a disposable rubber tube.

Use method and steps of gun foam:
Take the foam gun and clean it with polyurethane cleaning agent to ensure smooth flow;
Then take the styrofoam, hold the middle of the tank tightly with your hand, and shake vigorously at least 15-30 times along the transverse direction of the tank to ensure that the prepolymer in the tank is fully mixed;
Remove the protective cover of the valve on the gun-type foam rubber thread ring, remove the cleaning agent from the foaming gun, and install the foaming agent tank onto the interface of the foaming gun along the thread;
Hold the handle of the foaming gun firmly, make sure that the tank is placed above, the foaming gun is below the tank, and open the flow regulating valve at the rear of the foaming gun;
Point the gun at the bottom or inside of the part to be filled, and gently pull the trigger to start construction. It can be adjusted to the proper flow rate through the flow regulating valve behind the foam gun.
After spraying a can, if you still need to fill it, you can immediately remove the empty can, refill the foaming agent according to the method in point , and continue the construction.
After the construction is completed, remove the tank in time and replace the foaming gun with a special cleaning agent to prevent the remaining material from solidifying and blocking the foaming gun.
The use method and steps of tubular styrofoam:
1. Same as the second step of gun style.
2. Then take the disposable hose clockwise and screw it on;
3. Make sure that the tank is placed above, the foaming gun is below the tank, aim at the bottom or inside of the part to be filled, and gently pull the trigger to start construction.
4. Spray from bottom to top, the spray volume can reach 80% of the required filling volume (tubular filling volume is 2/3)
Use tips
Pay attention to the travel speed when spraying, usually the spray volume can be 2/3 of the required filling volume. Fill vertical gaps from bottom to top; when filling gaps such as ceilings, uncured foam may fall due to gravity. Proper support is recommended immediately after filling, after the foam is cured and bonded to the gap wall Evacuate support. About 10 minutes, the foam is detackified and can be cut after 60 minutes. Use a knife to cut off the excess foam, and then coat the surface with cement mortar, paint or silicone.
Do not store it upside down. Store in a dry, cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat sources. The storage temperature should not exceed 30 .
Styrofoam is divided into gun type and tube type (commonly known as disposable). The tube type is mainly used for retail design, which means that the tube type is only suitable for homes to block holes and prevent leakage. local. In addition, the quality of general tube products is not very good. Most companies' 750ML packaging and high quality products will not use the tube type, because the pressure of the tube foam is lower than that of the gun type, and sometimes it will not play Clean and prone to gambling
Listed as "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" by the Ministry of Construction to promote and apply products.

Since the expansion and application of 2000 styrofoam in China, its market demand has rapidly expanded. In 2009, the annual consumption of the national construction market has exceeded 80 million cans. With the improvement of building quality requirements and the promotion of energy-saving buildings, The amount of foam will continue to increase steadily in the future.
In 2013, China has completely mastered the formula and production technology of styrofoam. It has generally used fluorine-free foaming agents that do not damage the ozone layer and has developed styrofoam (1). Except that some manufacturers still use imported valve accessories, other supporting raw materials have been localized.

Remarks: (1) The so-called front foaming means that 80% of the foaming foam has been foamed after spraying out, and the foaming amplitude at the back is very small, so that the workers can master the hand when using the foaming gun. Strength, simplicity and convenience without wasting glue, greatly saving costs. Post-foaming is that the gum gradually thickens after spraying, and is several times thicker than when it is punched out. This makes it difficult for the worker to grasp the strength of the trigger, which is easy to waste the glue, at least 1/3. Doors and windows can be easily damaged after the glue is cured.

Precautions for styrofoam storage

The normal use temperature of the styrofoam tank is + 5 + 40 , and the best use temperature is + 18 + 25 . Under low temperature, it is recommended to use this product at constant temperature for 30 minutes in + 25 + 30 environment to ensure its best performance. The cured foam has a temperature resistance range of -35 ° C to + 80 ° C.

Precautions for use of styrofoam

A. Styrofoam is a moisture-curing foam. It should be sprayed on a wet surface during use. The higher the humidity, the faster the curing. Uncured foam can be cleaned with a cleaning agent, and cured foam should be removed mechanically (sanding or cutting). The cured foam will turn yellow after being irradiated with UV light. It is recommended that the surface of the cured foam be painted with other materials (cement mortar, paint, etc.). After using the spray gun, please clean it with special cleaning agent immediately.
B. When replacing the tank, shake the new tank (at least 20 times), remove the empty tank, and quickly replace the new tank to prevent the spray gun connection port from solidifying.
C. The flow control valve and trigger of the spray gun can control the amount of foam flow. When injection stops, close the flow valve clockwise.

Styrofoam safety precautions

The uncured foam is sticky to the skin and clothes. Do not touch the skin and clothing when using. There is a pressure of 5-6kg / cm2 (25 ) in the styrofoam tank. The temperature during storage and transportation should not exceed 50 . To prevent the explosion of the tank body, the styrofoam can should be protected from direct sunlight. Children should not be allowed to use it. Empty cans after use, especially partially used but unused styrofoam cans should not be littered, and burning or puncturing of empty cans is prohibited. Keep away from open flames and do not come into contact with flammable or explosive materials. The construction site should have ventilation conditions. Construction workers should wear working gloves, work clothes and goggles during construction, and do not smoke at the same time. In case the foam touches the eyes, please rinse with water before going to the hospital; if it touches the skin, please rinse with water and soap.
The difference between styrofoam and foaming agent
Styrofoam is a special polyurethane product filled with polyurethane prepolymer, foaming agent, catalyst and other components in pressure-resistant aerosol cans. When the material is sprayed from the aerosol can, the foamed polyurethane material will quickly expand and react with the air or moisture in the substrate to form a foam. The cured foam has a variety of effects such as caulking, bonding, sealing, heat insulation, sound absorption, etc., and is an environmentally friendly, energy saving, and easy to use building material. It can be used for sealing and plugging, filling gaps, fixing and bonding, heat insulation and sound insulation, especially for sealing and waterproofing between plastic steel or aluminum alloy doors and windows and walls. The installation of finished door covers also requires the use of styrofoam.
Foaming agent (single-component polyurethane foam, English abbreviation OCF) is the cross-product of aerosol technology and polyurethane foam technology. It is a special polyurethane product filled with polyurethane prepolymer, foaming agent, catalyst and other components in a pressure aerosol can. When the material is sprayed from the aerosol can, the foamed polyurethane material will quickly expand and react with the air or moisture in the substrate to form a foam. The cured OCF foam has a variety of effects such as caulking, bonding, sealing, heat insulation, sound absorption, etc., is an environmentally-friendly, energy-saving, and easy-to-use building material. Thermal insulation and sound insulation, especially suitable for sealing, plugging and waterproofing between plastic steel or aluminum alloy doors and windows and walls.
