What is sour gas?

Acid gas is a term used to indicate gas that contains hydrogen sulphide at concentrations higher than four parts per million. The term 'sour gas' is usually used with a reference to natural gas, although it can also be used for discussion about other gases. Before safe use, it is necessary to treat gas with dirt, such as hydrogen sulphide. The gas refine process includes a step known as "matching" to remove hydrogen sulphide and other materials. These impurities must be removed in the refinery to ensure that the gas is done in a stable and predictable way when it is used.
