The

diode forward voltage indicates a decrease in the voltage that occurs when the electrical current passes through the diode in the electrical circuit. In general, it is independent of the amount of current passing through the diode and will be the same for a given family. For silicon diodes, which are generally the most common, the diode drop is a forward voltage of about 0.7 volts (V). When the electrons move in the right direction to pass through the diode, the diode is said to be biased . The decrease in the forward diode is therefore also known as a drop in the tension .

diodes work by having a small doped semiconductor material inserted between their electrodes that pass electrons in one direction, but not the other. This material has two zones, n zone , which is rich in negative-bunk electrons and p-zone , which is poor in electron. The P zone can be assumed that it will have positive holes that can receive electrons from the N zone. If fresh electrons are injected into the exhausted n-zones while they are removed from saturated P-zones, the electric current flows through the intersection. This happens when the diode is distorted. The electrons must be pushed by a voltage with sufficient force to exceed the P-N intersection, and this pressure is a source of diode forward voltage or the voltage drop forward.

If the polarity of the perimeter is reversed and an attempt to injection electrons is made to the P-zone while they are removed from the n-zone, the diode is said to be distorted and no current will flow. If this voltage with reverse distortion exceeds a certain value-maximal reverse voltage-can diode fail and drivet by large currents, in a process known as the decay of reverse voltage . The diode will then be permanently damaged.

As shown, different types of diodes have different voltage drops. A decrease in the anterior voltage of a simple diode (LED) emitting light (LED) can range from 1.4 to 4 V, depending on the type. For SchottKey diode, a drop in voltage is usually only 0.2 V.
