How Do I Care for an Open Incision?
Incisional hernias are commonly known as "knife hernias". They occur after abdominal surgery. Due to incision infections and poor healing, the muscular aponeurotic tissue that plays a major supporting role in the abdominal wall incision fails to heal, resulting in the formation of abdominal wall defects under the incision. Organs or tissues such as the intestinal canal and omentum are formed through the defect protruding outside the abdominal cavity. Because the abdominal wall muscle strength of women is lower than that of men, in contrast to the incidence of inguinal hernias, incisional hernias are more common in women.
