Sunburn, also known as solar dermatitis, is an acute phototoxic reaction caused by excessive sunlight in exposed areas of the skin. It is common in late spring and early summer. Sunburn is divided into first degree sunburn and second degree sunburn. The first degree of sunburn only damages the surface of the skin, and the second degree of sunburn damages the tissue beneath the skin, namely the dermis.
