How effective is the dutasteride for hair loss?
Initial tests show that the use of dutasteride for hair loss is a very effective strategy. They showed that 2.5 milligrams (mg) of the dutasteride were approximately 1.5 times more efficient than twice as much as the leading finasteride of hair loss. These initial achievements suggest that the use of dutasteride for hair loss is a good idea, but further testing is required before the definitive answer. DHT is created when androgens metabolize 5-alpha reductase and then react with conventional testosterone. The receptors in the hair follicles to pick up the nutrients needed for hair growth are clogged with DHT and start to thin. After a while less hair grows and existing hair begins to fall out, resulting in baldness. The use of dutasteride for hair loss reduces the amount of DHT present on the scalp.
Understanding that DHT is the cause of hair falling 95 percent of time is necessary to understand drugs for hair loss. When the patient uses the dutasteride for hair loss, the drug suppresses 5-Alfa reductase responsible for converting testosterone to DHT. Dutasteride is in fact the first treatment to inhibit both types of enzymes responsible for this conversion. This decrease in DHT also reduces the size of enlarged prostate, which is the primary use of the drug. This condition is called benign prostate hyperplasia.
Research by the effects of dutasteride for hair loss has generally had positive results. One study compared three different doses of dutasteride - 0.1 mg, 0.5 mg and 2.5 mg - with 5 mg finasteride and a placebo control group. These doses were administered every day and the number of hair in a predefined area of the scalp was counted to determine the effectiveness of the drug against control and the front competitor. After 24 weeks, the Placeba group lost an average of 32.3 hair and the 5 mg Finasterid group received 75.6. Group 0.1 mg Dutasteride acquired 78.5, the 0.5 mg group won 94.6 and the 2.5 mg group won 109.6 hair.
This test suggests that dutasteride is a very effective treatment for hair loss. The levels of the recorded DHT show that the preparation of 0.5 mg treatment has reduced the level of DHT scalp by 51 percent. Higher preparation of 2.5 mg reduced Skalp DHT levels by 79 percent. Unfortunately, three times as many patients in the Dutasteride group reported reduced libido than in the FINASTERIDE group, indicating the need for further research.
