What Are Fluoroquinolones?

Fluoroquinolones belong to quinolones, also known as picolinones, which are chemically synthesized antibacterials. Clinically used to treat urinary tract, intestinal tract, respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue, abdominal cavity, bone and joint infections, etc., with good results.

Among the more widely used varieties of fluoroquinolones, ciprofloxacin has a stronger effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, with a MIC90 of 1 mg.L-1, followed by a fluoxazine MIC90 of 2 mg.L-1. Although Haloperic acid is resistant to Pseudomonas aeruginosa MIC90 at 2 mg.L-1, it has poor absorption, low blood concentration, and cannot effectively control infection. Therefore, ciprofloxacin is a better application variety. The effect of fluoxacin on general negative bacteria is similar to or slightly weaker than that of ciprofloxacin. Some new varieties of polyfloxacin developed after the 1990s have similar anti-G-bacteria activity to ciprofloxacin. Moreover, the anti-G + cocci effect is strengthened, it is effective for MRSA, and it also has a certain effect on chlamydia, mycoplasma and anaerobic bacteria, which is obviously better than ciprofloxacin. According to foreign reports, such drugs have broken through the concept of antibacterial, and also made new progress in antiviral and antitumor, and have made remarkable achievements. It is expected that from the end of this century to the beginning of the next century, there will be more promising new varieties of this class of drugs.

With the widespread use of fluoroquinolones, bacterial resistance and adverse reactions have also occurred. Newly listed fluoroquinolones such as Temafloxacin were listed in the UK in 1992 only 15
