What factors affect sertraline dosing?
The prescribed dose of sertraline is largely dependent on the condition that is treated with it, and the dosage may be increased if the drug does not have a significant effect. For conditions such as depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder, a dose of 50 milligrams (mg) is recommended and should be increased in 50 mg increments if necessary. If patients use sertaline for panic disorder or post -traumatic stress disorder, the proposed initial dose is 25 mg per day. In general, more than 200 mg daily should not be used. These drugs work to increase the amount of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is a chemical of the neurotransmitter, which is responsible for the transmission of signals between the nerves in the brain. Low levels of serotonin in the brain are considered associated with conditions such as depression, OCD, post -traumatic stress disorder and alcoholism. SSRI can therefore be used to treat these conditions.
Recommended DThe sertraline is determined by the patient's condition and its sensitivity to treatment. In patients with depression, 50 mg of the initial dose is recommended. This is the most common use of sertraline, because about one in 10 people suffer from depression at some point in their lives. The dose of sertraline for OCD is also 50 mg. OCD is a condition that is characterized by the urge that the patient feels as if to follow, even if they can be illogical or unnecessary in nature. For both of these conditions, if the 50 mg dose does not help a condition per day, it can be increased by 50 mg each week, up to a maximum of 200 mg per day.
premenstrual dysphoric disorder is a more serious version of premenstrual syndrome, with patients feel depressed, irritating and tense before menstruating. Women suffering from this condition are recommended to take 50 mg per day or only during the luteal phase of menstruation. If the drug is taken during the menstrual cycle, it can only be prescribed at doses up to 150 mg per day. If they only take them through the luteal phase, onThe maximum dose of sertraline 100 mg throws.
Social anxiety and post -traumatic stress disorder have a proposed initial dosing of sertraline 25 mg per day. If treatment is not effective after one week, it can be increased to 50 mg. Then the dosage can increase in the same way as other conditions, with additions to 50 mg once a week, up to a maximum of 200 mg per day.
