What is carbenoxolone?
carbenoxolone, often called carbenoxolone sodium, is a drug derived from the root of licorice. It is used to treat ulcers in the mouth, esophagus and stomach and is available as a pill and liquid. It is also available as a local ulcers outside the mouth. Some evidence suggests that this medicine may also affect memory retention, especially verbal memory. This drug is used to relieve swelling and irritation, mild anti -inflammatory. This is particularly useful for the treatment of stomach ulcers, as it also helps neutralize stomach acid. This acid is naturally found in the roots of liquorice. Although the source of carbenoxolone is a natural herb, the drug itself has been chemically changed and is not considered a natural medicine.
For the treatment of ulcers, the ulcen or esophagus, carbenoxolone, is added to the antacid and is administered orally, either as a pill or as a liquid suspension. Damage to the inside of the mouth can be treated by rinsing with mouthwash filled with carbenoxolone. The drug can also be used as a local treatment of lesions that are found toOlem of the outside of the mouth.
Research has suggested that carbenoxolone can affect memory. Although studies are inconclusive, there is some evidence that suggests that it can slow down memory loss and increase the nerve activity in the brain. The beneficial effects of using this drug are evident after only a short duration of treatment. Regular use of drugs was associated with better induction of verbal information.
Although studies have shown correlation between the use of carbenoxolone and the increased memory function, there is little evidence that suggests that it is capable of missing the blood barrier. It seems unlikely that treatment with this drug can directly affect the brain. However, there are methods that could affect the function of the brain indirectly.
The use of carbenoxolone was associated with a decrease in total potassium levels. This condition may be dangerous in patients who have heart disease or kidney or liver problems. TThe potassium decrease can lead to high blood pressure and heart failure, so that patients with existing problems in these organs are warned against the use of this drug.
