What is Chromic Catgut?

Chromic Catgut is a fibrous material made of collagen taken from cow or sheep intestines and then treated with chrome acid salts. It is used to produce surgical stitches that can be absorbed by the body. Thanks to the treatment of chrome acid, this type of stitch has several advantages, which makes it more convenient to be a conventional catgut and some other types of stitches. Although Catgut and Chromic Catgut have in many cases be replaced by stitches made of synthetic materials, they are still available and used in some operations. These fibers are then sterilized, so they are suitable for surgery. Finally, a solution of chrome salt is applied to the stitches infusion and the springs are spinning electronically to ensure even chromic coating. The resulting stitches are brown colors, so it is slightly darker than ordinary catgut.Bit absorbed by the body, so there is no need to remove them manually. The enzymes of the body gradually dissolve them, so they are ideal for certain procedures, especially those that are performedinternally that cannot be accessed. The chromic Catgut absorption time is about twice the time of an ordinary catgut, which lasts about 90 days or more. This offers a distinct advantage if the sewn area is slowly and requires the next time.

Another advantage of chromic Catgut is tensile strength. Although all Catgut is relatively strong, the chrome variety maintains its strength in body tissues two to three times longer than a conventional untreated type. The nodes made of chromic catgut are very safe and because the seams maintain their integrity for a greater time, it is another advantage for slower healing cuts.

The surface of the chromic stitch is dry and smooth, compared to a normal catgut that is wet. This makes it easier to handle the cutting, plus for the surgeon who works with him. This type of surface also allows for a strong and safe node to be created during sewing, which minimizes the risk of nodesthey will stand in place.

by chromic catgut can also help minimize irritation in the surgical location. Chromic coverage causes less reaction in the body tissues than other untreated types of stitches. This leads to minor inflammation and faster healing.
