What is the Lakosamide?
Lacosamide is anticonvulsants prescribed mainly for the treatment of seizures. It is used in conjunction with other seizures for epilepsy and seizures with partial onset. This drug can also be used in the treatment of diabetic neuropathic pain. The seizures are grouped into one of the two classifications. Generalized seizures occur on both sides of the brain and often start from a partial seizure. In one part of the brain there are seizures of partial onset, also known as partial or focal seizures. Lacosamide works to reduce electricity in the brain that causes seizures. Complex partial seizures cause a person to lose consciousness and show special behavior, such as twitching or walking in a circle. Generally seizures of absence, called petit mal seizures, causes a person to go to Staring's magic. Generalized tonic-core seizures, called Grand Mal , cause loss of consciousness and violent muscle contractions. Diabetic neuropathic pain is neuropathy that affects pain fibers, autonomous nerves and motor neurons. Any organs associated with these peripheral nerves may be affected. Research has shown that antiepileptic drugs such as laconamide can help treat this neuropathic pain.
Lacosamide is most often prescribed in the form of a tablet. If the doctor does not provide other instructions, it should be taken twice a day. The tablets should be swallowed whole, with or without food and with lots of water. The doses begin low and gradually increase about once a week so that the body can adjust.
General Effects Lacosamide includes nausea, vomiting, vision changes and weakness. Eye twinkles, dizziness and fraying are also common. These side effects usually retreat as the body is treated. If they get worse or withe become annoying, a prescribing physician should be announced.
The way this medicine works with the brain can cause the patient's mental condition to change. Suicidal thoughts, anxiety, panic seizures, paranoia and depression may appear. Patients should be carefully monitored for unusual behavior.
